Qualification as Specialist Dietitian in Diabetology

A specialist dietitian in diabetology is qualified to design and develop individualized dietary plans, taking the patient’s health status into account. They are capable of planning and implementing nutritional prevention strategies, developing therapy-adjusted diets, and formulating appropriate dietotherapeutic recommendations for patients with diabetes, including those with complications and comorbidities.

With a specialist qualification in diabetology dietetics, the professional is able to:

  • Analyze an individual’s lifestyle to identify risk factors, provide lifestyle counseling, and develop health promotion programs.

  • Design, organize, and implement individualized preventive, health-promoting, and dietotherapeutic programs.

  • Develop nutrition plans and programs for patients with carbohydrate metabolism disorders.

  • Support and facilitate the adoption of healthy eating patterns.

  • Assist in achieving and maintaining individual nutrition-related goals.

  • Support individual glycemic, blood pressure, and lipid target values through dietotherapy.

  • Provide nutrition services to individuals, teams, and groups.

  • Conduct screenings, measurements, follow-up, and monitoring among patients with diabetes.

  • Implement effective, integrated, modern, and evidence-based nutritional interventions.

  • Provide individualized education about disease-related knowledge in diverse community settings (schools, after-school programs, clubs).

  • Participate in therapeutic and research teams, apply acquired knowledge and evidence-based principles in evaluating client and patient data, and analyze, communicate, and interpret specific parameters (e.g., laboratory results, anthropometric data).

  • Apply professional knowledge and skills in accordance with the practical standards and professional regulations of dietetic organizations.

  • Plan, manage, evaluate, and present programs and communicate the results of nutrition research.

  • Educate patients and their families about nutrition using practical experience (e.g., food purchasing, meal preparation, food preservation, effective weight-loss tools, methods for body weight normalization, and maintaining normal blood glucose levels).

  • Synthesize scientific data, translate it into practical guidance, and disseminate professionally relevant, evidence-based information through various media platforms (internet, television, print media).

  • Modify diets for various diseases and manage acute diabetic crisis situations through dietotherapy.

  • Board member of the OPT Section of the Hungarian Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (MMTT).

 

Professional Activities

As a dietitian with several years of clinical experience, my main fields of expertise include diabetology, gastroenterology, metabolic diseases, and allergic and gastrointestinal disorders.
