Dr. Tamás Szili-Török was born in 1968 in Szeged. From an early age, he developed a strong interest in cardiology and set out to gain an in-depth understanding of cardiac arrhythmias. He began his medical studies at the Albert Szent-Györgyi University of Szeged, Faculty of Medicine, where he graduated summa cum laude, demonstrating outstanding academic performance.
After obtaining his medical degree, Dr. Szili-Török focused his professional career on the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. As a young physician, he first gained clinical experience in the Intensive Care Unit of the Albert Szent-Györgyi University Clinic, after which he continued his cardiology training at the Department of Cardiology, Royal Perth Hospital, Australia.
He then spent three years in the Netherlands, working clinically and as a researcher at the Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam. During this period, he became familiar with the most advanced diagnostic tools and techniques. He obtained his second PhD degree there with the dissertation entitled “Ultrasound Imaging in Clinical Electrophysiology.”
Owing to his expertise and leadership skills, Dr. Szili-Török was soon appointed Head of the Electrophysiology Department at the György Gottsegen National Institute of Cardiology in Budapest. He further expanded his leadership experience at the Erasmus University Medical Center in Rotterdam, where he led the Electrophysiology Department at one of Europe’s most prestigious centres between 2009 and 2023.
The centre under his leadership was equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, with a strong emphasis on the education and training of physicians and allied professionals. Since 2023, he has been serving as Head of the Cardiology Centre of the Department of Internal Medicine, Albert Szent-Györgyi Clinical Centre, University of Szeged.
Dr. Szili-Török has gained international recognition through his professional work. The cardiology centres under his leadership provide world-class care for patients with cardiac arrhythmias and have introduced innovative procedures, including advanced mapping of arrhythmias using novel technologies and robot-assisted catheter-based therapies. His expertise also extends to the implantation of pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs).
